Precision Weight Loss Measurement for Space Use Materials
Precision electronic circuitry was developed to measure and indicate directly the weight loss of material in the high vacuum of space. The instrument uses revolutionary electronic techniques of weighing by torque balance measurement to measure weight loss of 0.1 microgram in 20 grams. The loss in weight is indicated directly in micrograms. This achievement has been acknowledged and commended by the Indian Space Research Organisation.

Precision Angle Measurement for Large Dish Antenna Applications

Development of an import substitute for the measurement of Azimuth & Horizontal angle of the 40 feet Dish Antenna for satellite tracking or 200 mm guns by innovative & unconventional use of the Synchro Transducer to achieve a resolution of 0.010C in 3600 & accuracy of 0.02 degrees overall. A paper on the innovative method applied is to be published shortly. The techniques used involves synthesis of precision sine waves and measurement of phase shift with high accuracy.

Corrosion Control Equipment for Oil Rigs and Platforms

Development of specialized Electrochemical Equipment for measurement & control of corrosion of Oil Rigs & Deep sea platforms. This uses specialized techniques in the drift free measurement of small millivolt signals with a high input impedance in the presence of large common mode voltage and other electrical noise. The measured signal with reasonable bandwidth was used to control large voltages and currents to give galvanic protection.

Conductance Measurement of Organics at High Frequency

Development of a high frequency (1MHz) conductance & impedance measuring equipment for organic salts used in chemical studies. A phase sensitive demodulation technique was used to separate out the conductance effect caused by the material bulk resistivity, from the unwanted conductivity caused by the cell capacitance and inductance. The vectored signal was filtered and digitised to display the conductivity directly in engineering units.

High Speed High Current Pulse Reversal Plating Equipment

Development of an import substitute for electrochemical application of high speed pulse plating for high current & high speed plating with periodic pulse reversal to eliminate hydrogen embrittlement in metallic plating. The use of periodic reversal eliminates entrapped hydrogen giving bright finish and ductile coatings without stress. Innovative use was made of high speed solid state switches to pulse high currents and periodically reverse the output.
